Description:

This
painting comes from Donald's "Plants Paintings
Series" that Donald painted between 1944 and 1978.
Dr.
DM Flather was both a talented scientist and accomplished
botanist with a keen interest in the natural world including
trees, plants and flowers. This bright and cheery floral
painting is number 83 in the Plants Series and features
bright white blossoms from the Dogwood Tree.
Donald
kept a very active greenhouse at his Kerrisdale, Vancouver
home on East Boulevard and was one of the original World
War II "Victory Garden" creators in the 1940's
where he tended a second garden next to the railway
tracks across the road from his home on the Boulevard.
Donald
even tunneled underneath the road to run a water line
to keep not only his, but his neighbour's Victory Gardens
watered.
