'Plant That Makes Sheep Sick' original Donald Flather painting for sale - framed view

Painting Title: 'Plant That Makes Sheep Sick'

Artist: Dr. DM Flather, FCA

Painting Size: 12" x 24 1/8"

Painting Materials: Oil on Board

Painting Date: Unknown - possibly 1960's
Description:

This floral painting titled 'Plant That Makes Sheep Sick' features a plant in BC that apparently makes sheep feel sick when they eat it. It comes from Donald's "Plants Paintings Series" that Donald painted between 1944 and 1978 and features naturally growing Clematis vine blossoms.

Dr. DM Flather was both a talented scientist and accomplished botanist with a keen interest in the natural world including trees, plants and flowers.

Donald kept a very active greenhouse at his Kerrisdale, Vancouver home on East Boulevard and was one of the original World War II "Victory Garden" creators in the 1940's where he tended a second garden next to the railway tracks across the road from his home on the Boulevard. Donald even tunneled underneath the road to run a water line to keep not only his, but his neighbour's Victory Gardens watered.
