Description:
|
This
painting comes from Donald's sought after "Coastal
BC Paintings Series" that Donald painted between
the 1930's and 1978.
It features
several elements that Dr. DM Flather was known for in
his paintings - excellent perspective and his specialized
cloud treatments. Another theme present in this painting
is Donald's concern for the environment - with "discarded"
remnants of BC's logging industry present on the beach
with the bleached tree carcasses. Donald became aware
of (and very concerned about) man's negative impact
on nature well before it became popularized and before
environmental potection organizations ever existed.
The setting
is in the famous Gulf Islands that lay between the BC
main Coast and Vancouver Island.
