view of this painting.
This
original oil on board painting features several elements
that Dr. DM Flather was known for in his paintings -
accurate and bold use of colour as well as his specialized
"stylized" cloud treatments.
This
is most likely an early morning scene on Shuswap Lake
as you can see the slight morning mist on the tops of
the trees on the island as well as on the shoreline.
Dr. DM
Flather really enjoyed the Shuswap Lake Region and in
fact in the late 1960's he owned a hobby farm in the
small town of Celista on the West shore of Shuswap Lake.
This
painting comes from Donald's popular "Shuswap/
Adams Lake Area BC Paintings Series" that Donald
painted between 1940 and 1974.
