This
image shows the new frame from the side.
This
is an important landscape painting of Donald's - most
likely to be catalogued in his "Purcell, Selkirk
and Rocky Mountain Series". The painting combines
all of the elements that Donald is known for including
great subject matter, perspective, sweeping glaciers
and effective use of light. It also comes from his highly
sought after early career period.
Donald's
Brother, Lorne Flather, was an RCAF pilot and this painting
came about from one of the many training flights that
Lorne took Donald on. Tragically, Lorne was killed on
a combat mission in WWII.
On the
back of the painting it reads:
"Marvel Lake, Alberta about 8 miles east of Mt.
Assiniboine during training flight June 1942. Head of
the Spray Lakes System."
