One
of the rare watercolour paintings of DM Flather. This
simple still life painting features a red flowering
plant. This framed original painting likely comes from
Donald's "Plants Paintings Series" that Donald
painted between 1944 and 1978.
Dr.
DM Flather was both a talented scientist and accomplished
botanist with a keen interest in the natural world including
trees, plants and flowers.
Donald
kept a very active greenhouse at his Kerrisdale, Vancouver
home on East Boulevard and was one of the original World
War II "Victory Garden" creators in the 1940's
where he tended a second garden next to the railway
tracks across the road from his home on the Boulevard.
Donald
even tunneled underneath the road to run a water line
to keep not only his, but his neighbour's Victory Gardens
watered.
