This original oil on canvas painting is likely the first (and most important) rendition of several paintings of the same tree painted by DM Flather. One of the reasons that Donald's Grandson, David Flather, believes that this is the first of several paintings is that on the backside of the canvas there are several pencil markings of "prospective titles" for this painting that include:

To David, this indicates that Donald was struggling with the most appropriate name for this painting. Subsequent paintings of this same tree had titles consistent with "Weathered Pine of Skaha" that further leads David to believe that its real title is "Weathered Pine of Skaha" and is the first rendition.

This canvas painting features a somewhat famously known scraggly pine tree on the shore of Skaha Lake, BC. Made famous from a CPR passenger rail brochure printed in the early 1900's that showed this tree along the beautiful Skaha Lake hillside. Unfortunately, the tree was apparently cut down by mistake by railway maintenance crews at some time after Donald spotted it.

This painting comes from Donald's popular "Okanagon Lake Area BC Paintings Series" that Donald painted circa 1953 and prior.
